You must remember this - Gabi

Gavirela "Gabi" Thomann

On landing the subject was arrested and separated for questioning. The following is a signed statement from Gavirela Thomann:

Born: Linz, Austria, 31 January 1918.

Two weeks prior to these events I, Gavirela Thomann, received a letter purporting to be from my sister Dafna Thomann. Dafna and my mother Hannah Thomann are believed to be in a ghetto in Vienna and were last in touch in April 1940. The letter was not in Dafna’s hand writing, but contained a lock of hair and perfume that I recognised. The letter contained instructions to go to Hotel Mabire and await word from our Mother. I therefore went back to Lichenstein from Bern and was employed by Arnaud Mabire to work behind the bar and in front of house.

On the 23rd February while working I received a letter from my mother (text appended) the letter was delivered by Fisnik Delf who had picked it up in Austria.  On the same evening I encountered a colleague of my father’s, Professor Avery Felton, who was staying in the hotel. Both the letter and Felton, suggested my father was in danger. Mr Thomann had been in Berlin working for the Nazi party as a physicist. He had hoped his work would enable him to locate his wife and daughter. Felton remained vague about the research that they had been conducting in this initial meeting.

There were numerous guests on 23rd November. I realised many were English and in the course of the evening felt that a few of the guests had arrived by parachute or other means, few were legitimately travelling in the area. Many had encountered misfortunes en-route. Where possible I offered medical aid and spare clothing. I was handed letters by the aide to Standartenführer Luther Herman, Helga Gelb to be handed to a British officer, Margret Woodford. The letter made it clear that Gelb recognised x and expected her to be debriefed at 23:00hrs. Shortly after 23:00hrs Gelb asked me to deliver a second message, which I discreetly did. This second message expressed concern that Woodford had not followed orders and demanded an immediate meeting. Concerned that the British residents responded positively to Woodford I confided the contents of the letters to hotel guest, Dorothy Forbes.  Forbes had said "Prock" in front of me earlier, my mothers letter had contained the name Adalheidis Prock and I wanted to find out if she had any further information about connected to this person. On discussion with Forbes and Herr Prock it became clear that the Adalheidis Prock in my Mothers letter was Herr Proch's mother. Jakob Prock had arrived with Forbes and was able to confirm that his mother was safe. It is unclear how she had encountered Hannah Thomann.

On Friday evening a German Soldier was shot outside the bar. I went to give medical aid as instructed. However the soldier was already dead. After this incident Mabire revealed that he had been given some important papers by Dyer. At this point we did not open the envelope to ascertain what they were. Later in the evening Captain Bertrand Emminger tried to arrest and then shot Dyer as he fled. I went to see if I could give medical aid. The actions of the German officers made it clear that they believed Dyer had stolen important visas. These were not found on his person. I immediately left the scene to inform Mabire that I suspected he was carrying the stolen visas. My first concern was that he would be in danger.  Mabire immediately opened the papers in the kitchen but asked me to keep quiet about them. At no point did I reveal to anyone who held these papers, even though I was aware that the English were looking for them.

On the 24th I was approached by Dame Katherine. Dame Katherine questioned me about my background and my co-operation with the German officer Gelb. I explained that I was Jewish and determined not to attract negative notice from the German officers. She explained that my co-operation had placed me in danger, but that I was needed as part of a select group who had been brought by co-incidence to the hotel. Dame Katherine then took me to a meeting where it was explained that the people on a list were in some way unreachable by the German clairvoyants. Forbes explained about experiments on Twins [Der Geist?] in Germany. I understood that my father and Felton's work was in a similar field. It was also explained that Woodford had been mistaken for a German spy who bore a striking resemblance. My actions in co-operating with the Nazi officers were also explained. The group organised for an expedition to a point indicated on a map that had been found. I was not to be part of the expedition.

After the expedition departed I returned to my afternoon shift in the bar. However Forbes reported a shadowy figure in the hotel and we searched for him. When I encountered the figure it was clearly a 'ghost' of my father. Only I could see him clearly and read the messages he was showing me. There were several such encounters in the afternoon. My father's letter said that he was communicating with me from 1942, that his research into time travel had shown him how to create a key point, that his work had been unwilling and he was being controlled by (Der Geist?). He communicated that mine and my sister's life were potentially forfeit that day if I did not follow his instructions. That to create this encounter he had shot himself in 1942. He told me that there were 5 artifacts that the Germans were hunting for. The photos indicated where we would find the final artifact. I went with Prock, Forbes, Peggy, Felton, and Dame Katherine to find the spot indicated. Here we found a message from my father leading us further into the woods. At this second spot we found a queen bee artifact that had been sought by the Germans. From this point, until it was given to Marco to be reburied the Bee was in my possession.

During the encounter with my father's ghost it became clear to me that Felton could give further information regarding the research they had been engaged in. I demanded that he tell me more, and Felton explained that both my father and himself had been involved in the (Der Geist?) research. That my Father had been following the magical methods of John Dee, which Felton felt were more direct, though messier than his own scientific research. It seems the Nazi's preferred the magical route. My Father had disappeared weeks earlier without prior notice. It is unclear whether this was under his own violation. Messages from my father had suggested he was working under compulsion and was not safe. With the disappearance of my Father, Felton had decided to leave Germany. Felton relayed more about the research to some of the other residents of the hotel.

Returning to the hotel I continued to work in the bar. Mabire explained that he wanted to give the passes to his former lover, Eveline Van Delinde, and her husband who is a Communist who had recently escaped from the Nazis. Delinde later approached me and spoke about her relationship with Mabire. She was willing to give up one pass to the greater good of the war effort; the other would be used by her husband to escape. She would stay in the resistance. I recommended that she could give her pass to Prock. I had overheard a conversation in the bar that indicated that he was a code breaker who needed to escape to the UK. She recognised the importance of this and agreed that she would give up the pass if given it by Mabire. I approached Detective Daniel Rawlings regarding this possibility. I did not reveal the identity of the holder of the passes.

After this several more guests arrived for the evening. These were believed to be Eric Von Stroheim, several Hollywood actresses, and a stunt pilot. Kitty Lowry also arrived, having landed a large transport plane nearby. I understood that this plane had been stolen from the Germans.

Later that evening the hotel was besieged by what was believed to be ancient warriors who wanted the country protected from outsiders. Several of the company were wounded during this attack, including myself, and I strove to give medical help under the direction of Dame Katherine. The local people took the bees to be reburied safely. This seemed to end the attack.

On the 25th we awoke aware that the hotel was about to be attacked by a large force of German soldiers including Otto Rahn. I joined Felton and the English Soldiers who were escaping while others rigged the hotel with explosives. Mabire gave the papers in his possession to Delinde, and is then believed to have set the explosive charge himself killing the German force.
